The Farmington River Watershed Association (FRWA) welcomes Eileen Fielding as its new Executive Director. Ms. Fielding comes to FRWA from her position as Executive Director of the Hoosic River Watershed Association in Williamstown, MA, and has many years’ experience in other environmental organizations as well. She holds a doctorate in ecology from the University of Connecticut and has taught at Trinity College, St. Joseph College, Wesleyan University, and the University of Chicago.
About her new position, Fielding commented, “The Farmington River is a tremendous natural asset. It’s a privilege to join the terrific team at FRWA that looks after this river, and I’m very eager to get started on the job.” Board president Frank Untermeyer added, “I’m very confident that she will make an outstanding Executive Director.” Ms. Fielding will start full-time work at FRWA on June 2, succeeding Eric Hammerling, who is now Executive Director at the Connecticut Forest & Park Association.

SIMSBURY, March 5, 2008 – The Farmington Valley Trails Council and the Farmington River Watershed Association along with the East Coast Greenway Alliance are proud to announce a fundraising event to benefit all three organizations hosted by the Riverview Wedding and Banquet facility located at 10 Winslow Place-between the Farmington River and the multi-use Farmington Canal Heritage in Simsbury. The owners of the Riverview have graciously offered their elegant facility’s grand opening to benefit these wonderful organizations.
The event will be held from Noon until 6 PM on Saturday the 26th. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Tickets are $10 per individual and $25 for families at the door or contact the FRWA for advance sales at (860) 658-4442. Events include shows by world- renowned extreme trails rider Jeff Lenowski at 2pm and 4pm; fly fishing and tying demonstrations by Dick Reynolds of the Farmington River Angler’s Association at 1pm and 3pm; and a ride on the trails to the proposed route of the East Coast Greenway in Tariffville in conjunction with the Tariffville Village Association. Representatives from the recipient organizations will be available with information and displays. A number of door prizes will be given out to ticket holders during the course of the event, including grand prizes of a bicycle and a kayak.
